The Great Loop

This web site is an attempt to provide a quick and easy way for our family and freinds to keep up with us on "The Loop"

The Great Loop is a 6000 mile jouney down the Tennessee River and the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile, Alabama. From there around the coast of Florida via Key West with a side trip to the Bahamas. Back to the coast of Florida we head up the east coast to the Chesapeake Bay. From the Chesapeake we continue up the east coast through New York Harbour, up the Hudon River, and across the Erie Canal. Through a series of canals we go across Lake Ontario into Canada. We will spend a month in Canada. Back to the US, we will cross Lake Michigan to Chicago. Following the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers back to Tennesse.

LOOP CLOSED: 8/12/09: 310 days, 6170 miles, 107 locks, 3 countries, 16 states, 85 different marinas, 10,050 gallons of diesel fuel, thousands of photos, countless new friends, and priceless memories...

West End, Grand Bahama

Well.......West End isn't particularly noted as one of the highlights of the Bahamas.....but man oh man how much more beautiful can it get? Our second and last day here, we really packed lots in
.......Walking on the beach.. ... We rode our bikes into TOWN....which consisted of a few older run down homes turned stores along the way....but I did manage to buy medication for sea sickness just in case! There were conch shells by the thousands lining the waterway....in large piles for the taking....but that did not stop the two salesmen from having their road side shop...of course I bought some....a girl has to shop somewhere.

Later we sat on the beach and took a long snorkel .....there is that starfish that was $25 ....we decided to let him live. We met Larry and Pat on Meridian's Magic.....at the pool ....and later had our own dock party....discussing the plan and route for tomorrow as we head out to Spanish Cay
(pronounced key). Up early to do this blog and away we go....we will keep in touch. Hello to my favorite people....Kinsey Kay and Turner....Jason and Mel...I miss you and wish you will be able to come with me some day when you are bigger.....Also to my Mom and Dad...who are doing an adventure of their own...My brother Jim is taking them to St Pete.....Let me know how you are doing and if you love if as much as we did...Lots of Love. Love to Magi, Brian, Rebecca, and Brett also!
