The Great Loop

This web site is an attempt to provide a quick and easy way for our family and freinds to keep up with us on "The Loop"

The Great Loop is a 6000 mile jouney down the Tennessee River and the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile, Alabama. From there around the coast of Florida via Key West with a side trip to the Bahamas. Back to the coast of Florida we head up the east coast to the Chesapeake Bay. From the Chesapeake we continue up the east coast through New York Harbour, up the Hudon River, and across the Erie Canal. Through a series of canals we go across Lake Ontario into Canada. We will spend a month in Canada. Back to the US, we will cross Lake Michigan to Chicago. Following the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers back to Tennesse.

LOOP CLOSED: 8/12/09: 310 days, 6170 miles, 107 locks, 3 countries, 16 states, 85 different marinas, 10,050 gallons of diesel fuel, thousands of photos, countless new friends, and priceless memories...

Harbour Island

From Spanish Wells we traveled to Harbour Island....destination of many of the rich and famous! Much of our documentation on this blog..photos just cannot relay the beauty and awesome surroundings you find yourself in!

As you can imagine....so many boats to admire...older refurbished to the mega yachts. And I do believe we have a photo of all of them.

Many interesting shops...from the local straw markets with coconut purses....to very trendy and expensive shops. One in particular was a European store and a shell was 60 dollars...lamps $1000 and of course the pair of shoes I wanted were only $460. Fun to look!
We traveled around the town, Dunmore Town, Briland is what the locals have shorted Harbour Island to...guess too many Bahama Mamas...
We stayed at a wonderful resort .....no rocking ...a large tub...and the bed was to die for....I would have paid anything.

A block from the resort is a gathering place....the local Brilanders meet and talk under the large shade tree. Over the years....signs ....sayings and words to live by.....are posted. You are encouraged to leave you nimble of wisdom with a donation which go to one of the local charities.

The beaches here are awesome....known for their coral sands. We enjoyed having our own private beach. Jim and Jeorge had fun. I think Jeorge looks interesting with the blond seaweed
do.......don't you??? All is all...what a place...and as the sun sets off we go back to the boat on our ferry. Memories galore!
