The Great Loop

This web site is an attempt to provide a quick and easy way for our family and freinds to keep up with us on "The Loop"

The Great Loop is a 6000 mile jouney down the Tennessee River and the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile, Alabama. From there around the coast of Florida via Key West with a side trip to the Bahamas. Back to the coast of Florida we head up the east coast to the Chesapeake Bay. From the Chesapeake we continue up the east coast through New York Harbour, up the Hudon River, and across the Erie Canal. Through a series of canals we go across Lake Ontario into Canada. We will spend a month in Canada. Back to the US, we will cross Lake Michigan to Chicago. Following the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers back to Tennesse.

LOOP CLOSED: 8/12/09: 310 days, 6170 miles, 107 locks, 3 countries, 16 states, 85 different marinas, 10,050 gallons of diesel fuel, thousands of photos, countless new friends, and priceless memories...

Baltimore

Overcast as we approached Baltimore...a short run today....thank you Lord. We will have to do a documentary on lighthouses as many as we have photographed....but they all are so unique........Francis Scott Key Bridge..............And below Fort McHenry where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangle Banner.....rich history. As we approached Baltimore......I am surprised....what an amazing city....and we felt the energy the moment we docked the boat.............colorful sailboats blowing around......lots of people compared to St Michaels and Solomans......it is nice to know that the economy has not slowed everywhere.... Kids and adults enjoy the paddle boats...........and here we are.....Sea la Vie....She has done so well for us.....and just seems to hum along ...then relax with us after we arrive............Can you tell we are attached?

I am all about this photo....this is a garbage boat.....he just does this all day and keeps all the trash out......Ft Loudon!!!!!!....WE NEED ONE OF THESE!

All shapes and sizes of water crafts around.......

We saw this same "boat" - Freddy Freddy - in Wilmington, NC...
We had to go to the aquarium...and it is very awesome. I just think coming out of the Bahamas we had been in the water almost touching for real some of those beautiful creatures.....so it may have seemed a little less interesting to us....but an absolutely must do for your family if you go to Baltimore.......and what great structures.................the buildings are awesome. The USS Constellation was available for tours.....we were here during the week end and the lines were long....One of the Naval Academy's training boats visiting Baltimore...............

Camden Yards for the ballgame..........The Atlanta Braves played the Baltimore Orioles.....I am not a big baseball fan...but this was fun.....great stadium. Of couse we had the cheap bleacher seats.

Howl At The Moon.....the dueling piano bar was a blast. We were late nighters as we listened to the performance.

We had a Batcholareete party going on here.....a scavenger hunt of sorts.....and or course Jay had just what she needed .......so being the Tennessee gentleman that he is.....he obliged......

Some not so good photos of the Aquarium above....
And as yet another day ends.....we wonder what to say....as you always ask.....What do you do all day?????
While in Baltimore, we got to see our friends Bob and Deb aboard "Headquarters." We have not seen them since Ft Lauderdale. We spent a week across the dock from them in Key West. First met them at Joe Wheeler on the Tennessee River. The cruising community is really a pretty small world. Lots of new and great friends....(forgot to get a picture)

In Baltimore we sadly say goodbye to our friends Jay and Nancy. Jay joined Jerry in Hilton Head and Nancy and I joined in New Bern, NC. I guess my job as first mate is safe.... We will miss you both!!!
