The Great Loop

This web site is an attempt to provide a quick and easy way for our family and freinds to keep up with us on "The Loop"

The Great Loop is a 6000 mile jouney down the Tennessee River and the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile, Alabama. From there around the coast of Florida via Key West with a side trip to the Bahamas. Back to the coast of Florida we head up the east coast to the Chesapeake Bay. From the Chesapeake we continue up the east coast through New York Harbour, up the Hudon River, and across the Erie Canal. Through a series of canals we go across Lake Ontario into Canada. We will spend a month in Canada. Back to the US, we will cross Lake Michigan to Chicago. Following the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers back to Tennesse.

LOOP CLOSED: 8/12/09: 310 days, 6170 miles, 107 locks, 3 countries, 16 states, 85 different marinas, 10,050 gallons of diesel fuel, thousands of photos, countless new friends, and priceless memories...

Parry Sound

We arrived in Parry Sound this afternoon after stopping for lunch at Henry's. Lynn is tired, so I will let her write the blog tomorrow. Some small channels today but mostly more open water. We want to get an early start tomorrow to beat the afternoon wind for about a 60 mile open water run. Lynn's color analyst to come later... ey!
Lynn's commentary:

I am starting to sound like a broken record......amazing, beautiful and etc are just not the correct adjectives for this atmosphere. It has to be such a different kind of life living here. I do know many people have a 'cottage' here just for the summer....and I do think most summers are warmer than this year......

The different color of rock...and/or granite is so unusual. In particular it is not one of one's favorite sights when maneuvering a boat thru the surrounding waters............but you still cannot help but appreciate the natural beauty....................

Cottages come in all shapes, styles and sizes...................
Lunch at Henry's .... The favorite place in all the books to have lunch....guess?? Fish and Chips...and it was tasty...light .....and many boaters docked for the night here.....not a bad idea..............

The seaplanes were everywhere........Even rides were available once we arrived in Parry Sound.....they would take you to dinner.....yes you guessed right.....to Henry's for fish n' chips..........
She always looks so tired after a long day...and quite at home at the many docks she has frequented these last few months....
Fellow loopers at Henry's....
Another interesting and quaint small town.....Parry Sound....

We have surely spent most of our savings these last few months on chunky monkey, vanilla bean, and marble maple.....but oh my what great ice cream we have had.....and it looks so good on us...
Really some interesting art here. What a wonderful way to display it in your town.....we enjoyed that...............And Jerry enjoyed some of the shopping....ha...especially with the doggy.......ha
Tuesday night car meet in Parry Sound...
Some of these cars were so old....and in such good shape.....1928, 1951, Ford Fairlane, Chevy, I think there was a one of everything.....and such pride. The owners had their wiping clothes with them...making sure the shine lasted thru the evening............

We enjoyed our stay here.....one night was just right and onward we go toward Chicago............

Wow, ya'll are really haulin'! We spent 3 days in Peterborough, left there on Sunday, and today, Wednesday, we are in Orillia, where we intend to stay 3 nights (got to get that free night). Sorry you are bypassing the rendezvous. Sounds like we may not catch up with you. Have fun...we're are! Betsy in Rick 'n Roll.
