The Great Loop

This web site is an attempt to provide a quick and easy way for our family and freinds to keep up with us on "The Loop"

The Great Loop is a 6000 mile jouney down the Tennessee River and the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile, Alabama. From there around the coast of Florida via Key West with a side trip to the Bahamas. Back to the coast of Florida we head up the east coast to the Chesapeake Bay. From the Chesapeake we continue up the east coast through New York Harbour, up the Hudon River, and across the Erie Canal. Through a series of canals we go across Lake Ontario into Canada. We will spend a month in Canada. Back to the US, we will cross Lake Michigan to Chicago. Following the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers back to Tennesse.

LOOP CLOSED: 8/12/09: 310 days, 6170 miles, 107 locks, 3 countries, 16 states, 85 different marinas, 10,050 gallons of diesel fuel, thousands of photos, countless new friends, and priceless memories...

Ft Lauderdale Week 1

Our first week in Ft Lauderdale has been full of activities. We had a dock party...great food provided by the marina and met some more of our boat neighbors. We rented a car here ...as the town is spread out and we had some shopping to do....it is a full day to get thru the traffic.

Our friends Mike and Jane Barbrow came to see us and went to the party with us! Lunch at Shooters the next day and then we took the water taxi thru the New River .....the tour guide pointed out Jay Leno's home, Sonny and Cher's first house, Burt Reynold's 3 homes he bought for Loni, Sally and Dinah...and many more well known business owners extravacant homes here. We also shopped at Las Olas Blvd....high end clothing stores, art museums and restaurants are beautifully done on the tree lined boulevard.

Friday night we met some more friends from Knoxville, Barney and Nancy Travis , the six of us had cocktails at their suite at L'Hermatage....just a beautiful place....then on to a wonderful dinner at Grill 66...fabulous! A final night cap at the Hilton where the Barbarows stayed...their room was wonderful....great views of the ocean.

So whats on the schedule for today?? We will keep ya posted...stay tuned.
