The Great Loop

This web site is an attempt to provide a quick and easy way for our family and freinds to keep up with us on "The Loop"

The Great Loop is a 6000 mile jouney down the Tennessee River and the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile, Alabama. From there around the coast of Florida via Key West with a side trip to the Bahamas. Back to the coast of Florida we head up the east coast to the Chesapeake Bay. From the Chesapeake we continue up the east coast through New York Harbour, up the Hudon River, and across the Erie Canal. Through a series of canals we go across Lake Ontario into Canada. We will spend a month in Canada. Back to the US, we will cross Lake Michigan to Chicago. Following the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers back to Tennesse.

LOOP CLOSED: 8/12/09: 310 days, 6170 miles, 107 locks, 3 countries, 16 states, 85 different marinas, 10,050 gallons of diesel fuel, thousands of photos, countless new friends, and priceless memories...

Marathon

Marathon was really beautiful....I don't think I have ever seen that so many sailboats in one place! There was every type of boat from imaculate yachts to the "fixer-up" like at the dock next to us. The marina had a pool that we took full advantage.

It is truly a boating commnity ! Every morning there is a community chat line on channel 68 with all kinds of info and items for sale. We enjoyed dinghying around with our friends to happy hour, watching the iguanas running around the docks and swimming across to the mangroves, and of course great sunsets! The cruising boaters dinghy in for a get together every week.....so many dinghys in one place.....Jerry was in awe!

Little excitment....one of the boaters found a wallet floating....called us and guess what....Jerry was very lucky....she returned it , by dinghy of course, and would take no money!

Hey Jerry,
You look great! It was great to hear from you today. I'm glad to hear you and Lynn are doing so well.
Sherman said he thinks you look like Tom Seleck (the actor) with the beard, especially in the picture with the cowboy hat. I can see it too. That is a complement.
You two be safe and enjoy every minute. I'll check back another time and if I never told you, thanks for all that you did for me at Clayton.
